PARTNERSHIP FOR SUCCESS

The LCCB & HIV and AIDS prevention programme is a partnership between DanChurchAid (DCA), Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT), Church Health Association in Zambia (CHAZ), The overall objective is HIV and AIDS prevention.

LCCB aims to strengthen community competence to respond to HIV and AIDS
LCCB recognises that the most effective responses to HIV and AIDS are community driven. HIV and AIDS are preventable through the realisations that women and men share equal rights and that effective multi-sectoral strategies exist to prevent HIV and AIDS. These include primary prevention and care and support to people infected and families affected by HIV and AIDS.

.

  HIV AND AIDS ARE PREVENTABLE

Through participatory social development. LCCB supports vulnerable and disadvantaged communities to meet their basic needs, access their human rights and reinforce their own development capacities through local community competence mechanisms. Through this approach, communities can become empowered to draw on their own strengths, define and analyse their own problems and determine their own activities. The LCCB programme is cross cutting. It focuses on Life Skills and HIV and AIDS Education, Home Based Care for people infected and families affected by HIV and AIDS, as well as Micro-Savings and Credit Schemes, Community Dialogue & Participation and Institutional and Community Competence Building.

The programme recognises that gender inequality fuels HIV infection and that men are a major part of the solution especially if they understand how their actions can contribute to the spread of HIV and AIDS. LCCB implementation is based on a human rights and gender approach. This includes principles of non-discrimination, gender equality, accountability and the right to access quality health care, right to information, right to education and right to property.
